Dr. Eve Shapiro is a Visiting Research Scholar at the Center for Research on Women and Social Justice at the University of California, Santa Barbara. What an EXCELLENT Book!

I am just so amazed by the quality of this book! It is written with such passion that it makes you want to jump right in, and the descriptions are so thorough that you feel as though you are more than equipped to do so. I love everything about this book from the very helpful photos to the inspiring stories about Michel's love for each type of pastry at the beginning of every chapter.

The recipes are amazing! The recipes in the puff pastry and croissant sections are for these amazingly elegant, high-end savory pastries that you'd expect to find only in fine restaurant but with this book you will have the tools to make them at home! How amazing is that?! I love how this book starts off with a recipe for a given type of pastry and then gives you maybe 10 recipes or so for each pastry. The photos of the pastries are mouth-watering, too. The recipes are thorough and meticulously written, and all of the reasoning behind the little details are explained. You even get those great expert's tips on how to make your pastries come out like the pros.

Just a bit about the specific contents of the book, there is a chapter on pate brise (shortcrust), pate sablee (shortbread), puff pastry, phyllo, croissant dough, pizza dough, brioche dough, and choux pastry. Plus, at the end there is an awesome section full of basic recipes for things like chantilly cream, creme anglaise, herb crepes, and more. For anyone who loves cooking and wants to learn more, this book is an absolute must have! I am SO incredibly glad that I have it. This one is a definite keep-forever-and-pass-it-down kind of book. It's that good!

Wonderful recipes. Clear, concise, directions with pictures to help.

Just knowing how to do something well is not enough to write a cookbook. One has to be a teacher and instruct from the novice student point of view. Me? Making Eclairs? Not until this book. For all the bakers out there, terrified of pastry, chox paste (for those wonderful eclairs) pie crust, the most impressive cookies you'll ever serve, pot pies, and more...this is the book for you. The difference between these recipes, with photos to help with each stage, and others, is the difference between ground beef and prime rib. The recipes in Pastry: Savory and Sweet create results that will have your friends BEGGING for more. Bravo to the author for insisting on step by step photos (which cost so much more to print) to greatly assist the baker who wants to turn the ordinary into extraordinary in terms of flavor, texture, color, and variety in this fabulous book.

Must read - I think I have a girl crush on Katy Evans!

Errrmmmaaaagawwd I love this book! I am swooning! Katy Evans is so talented. I've been a huge fan since I read Real about 3 years ago. Since then I've followed and read everything she writes. I have anxiously waited for Womanizer and am so in love with Callan & Olivia. We first met Callan in Katy's Manwhore series. Malcolm, Tahoe and Callan are all very good looking, successful, wealthy and can get any woman they want. One by one they fall. And you know they saying the bigger they are, the harder they fall? Well, Callan is the biggest womanizer and the last man standing so I couldn't wait for his story. Olivia is Tahoe's sister. She has a well thought out plan for her career and life. But the Hot Smoker Guy she meets during her internship may just teach her a thing or two. She's young, beautiful, sweet, funny and ambitious. Hot Smoker Guy doesn't stand a chance.

Everything about this book sucked me in. Fantastic writing, characters you fall in love with and plenty of angst and sexy times. I couldn't put it down. I didn't want the book to end. I hope Katy writes follow ups to all the couples because I can't get enough.

Holy Hanna! I couldn't put it down.

No cliffhanger
Standalone though part of a larger series
Told from Olivia's POV. (2 chapters from Callan's POV)
No major editing issues

First off I have to repeat myself. HOLY HANNA!!! I loved this book. It is by far and away the best of the series. This author nailed the banter. It was flirty, funny and just plain fabulous.

Olivia is fresh out of college with a plan for her life already charted out. She just needs to get through this internship so she can start that plan which ends with her owning her own business, succeeding in the business world and then finally at 28 settling down.

Callan is the CEO of Carma International, world-renowned playboy and Olivia's brothers best friend. Since they are from different states they have never met and beyond knowing his friends kid sister is going to intern at his company he has no intention of meeting her.

Neither expected to meet the other. Neither was looking for something serious and neither of them realized they who they were sleeping with until it was too late. The problem is, once you have a taste of something that good...how do you let it go.

This book was amazing. A must read!!!!

Booktabulous! Callan's and Livvy's story was so good.

From mail room guy to hot cigarette man, to Callan, he was nothing short of perfection. This man was sinfully sexy, wickedly hot, and had a sarcastic Witt about him. You couldn't keep your eyes off of him if you wanted to, LITERALLY. I kept reading, and reading waiting for every move this man made.

From their first meeting to the very last I was hooked. Olivia had a plan, and well Callan-not so much. In the relationship department anyways. When it came to commitment Callen kept things uncomplicated, until Olivia.

With every puff they take, things get complicated, but with every kiss they steal it becomes even more confusing....for them anyway. Haha. (We readers already know we want to happen. Lol).

Nanna deserved her own spotlight for best supporting role award. This woman was a hoot. I LOVED HER.

Please read this book. You'll love it, and so did I. Xx

I am naturally creative. I write music, books, poetry. I decorate, paint, garden and cook. I have inventions and workshops that are original and
enterprising. Still, there is a lot to benefit from in this book.
First of all, Odunsi mentions that things that work for me...including being in nature, taking risks, expanding your circle, changing your
habits....but there is more.

There is a lot of meat here too..this might have been a college thesis, for example. Its not all fluff. If you want to break out into your best
self, this book is an excellent guide. GO FOR IT!

A NOBEL-PRIZE WINNING PHYSICIST SUGGESTS, "I AM GOD"

Erwin Rudolf Josef Alexander Schr�dinger (1887-1961) was a Nobel Prize-winning Austrian physicist who is most noted for his contributions to quantum theory.

He begins the "What is Life?" book by stating, "How can the events in space and time which take place within the spatial boundary of a living organism be accounted for by physics and chemistry? The preliminary answer which this little book will endeavor to expound and establish can be summarized as follows: The obvious inability of present-day physics and chemistry to account for such events is no reason at all for doubting that they can be accounted for by those sciences." (Pg. 3-4)

Later, he states his "one general conclusions ... that, I confess, was my only motive for writing this book... living matter, while not eluding the 'laws of physics' as established up to date, is likely to involve 'other laws of physics' hitherto unknown, which, however, once they have been revealed, will form just as integral a part of this science as the former." (Pg. 72-73) But he adds, "we must be prepared to find [living matter] working in a manner that cannot be reduced to the ordinary laws of physics." (Pg. 81) He advises, "We must therefore not be discouraged by the difficulty of interpreting life by the ordinary laws of physics... We must be prepared to find a new type of physical law prevailing in it. Or are we to term it a non-physical, not to say a super-physical, law?" (Pg. 86)

He suggests, "What is the characteristic feature of life? When is a piece of matter said to be alive? When it goes on 'doing something,' moving, exchanging material with its environment, and so forth, and that for a much longer period of than we would expect an inanimate piece of matter to 'keep going' under similar circumstances." (Pg. 74) He adds, "What then is that precious something contained in our food which keeps us from death? That is easily answered... everything that is going on in Nature means an increase of the entropy of the part of the world where it is going on. Thus a living organism continually increases its entropy... and thus tends to approach the dangerous state of maximum entropy, which is death. It can only keep itself ... alive, by continually drawing something from its environment negative entropy... the essential thing in metabolism is that the organism succeeds in freeing itself from all the entropy it cannot help producing while alive." (Pg. 76)

He summarizes, "My body functions as a pure mechanism according to the Laws of Nature.. Yet I know, by incontrovertible direct experience, that I am directing its motions... in which case I feel and take full responsibility for them. The only possible inference from these two facts is, I think, that I... am an person, if any, who controls 'the motion of the atoms' according to the Laws of Nature... it is daring to give to this conclusion the simple wording that it requires. In Christian terminology to say: ‘Hence I am God Almighty' sounds both blasphemous and lunatic... In itself, the insight is not new. the earliest records to my knowledge date back to ... great early Upanishads the recognition ATHMAN = BRAHMAN... Again, the mystics of many centuries ... have described ... the unique experience of his or her life in terms that can be condensed in the phrase... I have become God." (Pg. 92-93)

In the "Mind and Matter" book, he says, "It would seem ... ridiculous, to think that the contemplating, conscious mind that alone reflects the becoming of the world ... should have appeared contingently, associated with a very special biological contraption which in itself quite obviously discharges the task of facilitating certain forms of life in maintaining themselves... forms of life that were late-comers and have been preceded by many others that maintained themselves without that particular contraption (a brain)... And before that happened, should it all have been a performance to empty stalls?... But a world existing for many millions of years without any mind being aware of it, contemplating it, is it anything at all? Has it existed?" (Pg. 146)

He concludes, "No personal god can form part of a world model that has only become accessible at the cost of removing everything personal from it. We know, when God is experienced, this is an event as real as an immediate sense perception or as one's own personality. Like them he must be missing in the space-time picture, I do not find God anywhere in space and time---that is what the honest naturalist tells you. For this he incurs blame from him in whose catechism is written: God is spirit." (Pg. 150)

This is a surprising book, that will perhaps be of most interest not to those studying physics, but those interested in mysticism and religious experience.
